Interpretation
The first impeachment of a United States president in 130 years occurred in December 1998 when President William Jefferson Clinton was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives for perjury while trying to cover up his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinski. A stained blue dress and conversations with Ms. Lewinski secretly recorded by Linda Tripp were key pieces of evidence in the hearings.
