High Time

I click the mouse on my Real Audio
And there's the voice coming back at me
He starts to speak in a voice so righteous
About the sins of Mr. Tommy
He's got the answers to all our questions
About how he's been kicked out and deceived
I try to hear the other side now
But all I get is more of his morality
And Tommy won't speak, man
Now I see the fans, of the v5.0 guys
And they won't stand for one-sided news
They're gonna post their propaganda
Fights then ensue and then we all lose
And Dennis fans, are gonna point to the silence
'N actions of Shaw and Young then we'll fight
Boards are closed, and others lose fandom
Come on Boys, just do what's right
'Cause it's high time
For you to start a resolution
High time
Or even just an explanation
High time
It ain't the music that's in question
High time
It's more your lack of expression
Fans aren't comin'
Like in '96
Some are sayin
This aint the real Styx
D's illness' through
It was an aberration
He wants to move
And rock with Styx across the nation
High time
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
High time
For you to start a resolution
High time
Recinchareckinchuckinchakoora
High time
Everybody in Styx now just tell us why...

Interpretation
It all started with the release of Brave New World. Tommy Shaw and James Young wanted to release the album in the summer of 1999 and immediately tour to support the album. Dennis DeYoung was suffering from a mysterious illness that baffled doctors and left him unable to tour. He also wanted more time to finish the album. The album was released that summer over Dennis' objections, and the band went on the road with Lawrence Gowan filling in for Dennis and Glen Burtnik returning to fill in for Chuck Panozzo, who had previously decided to retire. Rumors started surfacing on the Internet, interviews and on-line chats with band members revealed conflicting and changing stories. Flame wars erupted on the various Styx e-mail lists as the fans polarized over the band's internal issues. Meanwhile, the Styx tour continued without Dennis, whose health improved enough to begin a highly-acclaimed solo tour with a 50-piece orchestra. This parody takes the perspective of many fans who feel that Dennis has been wronged and that Styx without Dennis isn't really Styx.
