My Hair
Written by Melani Cowell
To the tune of She Cares, written by Tommy Shaw

I tried to get the perfect haircut
I tried to do what all of my friends
had expected
Somehow it was rejected
Well, her hands were steady, her scissors too
We went in search of the perfect "do"
Found on 'Dennis Finch'
We couldn't just cut one inch
And still you act like I am bald now
You say you hate my hair
It may not be "Damn Yankees", but it's still there
It's my own damn hair

It was time to show a little forehead
Give up the bangs that you all thought were
just so much fun
At least it's not "Girls With Guns"
You say she cut too far, she cut too much
She made me look a little bit Dutch
But is that a sin?
I still have my gorgeous grin
And yet you act like I am bald now
You say you hate my hair
It may not be like "Shaw Blades"
But I don't care
'Cause it's only hair

Guess I'll just let it grow as fast as
it grows
And it'll be longer in no time
You love my eyes and nose
And even my toes

And yet you act like I am bald now
You say you hate my hair
It may not be "Ambition"
But it's still there
It's my own damn hair

Guess I'll just let it grow as fast as
it grows
And it'll be longer in no time
You love my eyes and nose
And even my toes

So when the summer comes and you see me
I won't have to feel so bad
'Cause you'll love my hair
Whoa you'll love my hair
Mmm I'm letting it grow
I said whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
Letting it grow

Interpretation

In the spring of 1999, as Styx was preparing to release the album Brave New World and embark on another tour, the first promotional band photo was released on the Crystal Ball, The Official Tommy Shaw Website. In that photograph, Tommy had changed his hairstyle once again. This sparked a debate among the female fans on the Styx Internet Mailing List and other on-line discussion lists concerning the length and style of Tommy's hair. This parody was written in the midst of that debate.
