Fan In Bewilderment
Written by Zan
To the tune of Man in the Wilderness, written by Tommy Shaw
Another concert passes by
got a guitar pick from JY
Look at the way my life's become
All of these years singing STYX songs to myself
(even liked "Golden Lark")
but I can't seem to "lounge" without a loan...
It makes me feel
like a fan in bewilderment
& I'm the only Stygian not aboard
I was so surprised
Now I can't win the grand prize...
Cuz I ain't got no cash at all....
(got no cash at all)
600 fans might want to pay
but the rest of us need to get real
it's just impossible to buy
all of these tickets, airfares, and merchandise
(so to properly stalk)
and still keep up the mortgage on our homes...
I guess I feel
like a fan in bewilderment
Here I thought that "bathwater" was free
I'm not being snide
I just can't understand why...
I can't access this site at all...
(I'm deprived)
I'm not above having troubled emotions
(I can't buy)
those good fancy seats in those front middle sections...
(I'm deprived)
I guess I feel
like a fan in bewilderment
I'm the only Stygian not aboard....
I just want to die
but think that I'll just cry....
cuz I ain't got the cash
I wish I had a stash
but I just got no cash at all...

Interpretation
When the Styx Lounge opened at StyxWorld.com, many fans were upset with the $30 membership fee to access the "Members Lounge" part of the site. Benefits of membership include on-line chats with the band and a members-only message board as well as options to buy "Golden Circle" seats at concerts (center section, rows 5-25), exclusive merchandise, etc. Members that signed up in the first two months were entered in a drawing to win a free trip to see Styx play New Year's Eve in Reno, Nevada. The mention of "bathwater" is a reference to an interview with Dennis DeYoung when he described certain overzealous fans as being excited even to drink the bathwater of their idols in the band.
