Edge Of My Sanity
Written by Alan
To the tune of Edge Of The Century, written by Glen Burtnik

Living on the edge, on the edge, on the edge of my sanity!

I played bass on "Revolution".
Sang "She Loves You" every night!
Now I play like Chuck Panozzo!
But I see him right there in plain sight!

Oh, can't you see?
I think I'm losing touch with reality!
Oh, who is ME?
I'm living on the edge, on the edge, on the edge,
On the edge my sanity!

Yeah!

Oh, the way the crowd was cheering
When I'd finish "Yesterday!"
Now, say goodbye to Paul McCartney!
Next I'm singing "Renegade!"

Oh, woe is me!
Everytime I play, there's someone else to be!
Paul, Tommy, or C.P.?
I'm living on the edge, on the edge, on the edge,
On the edge of my sanity!
I'm living on the edge, on the edge, on the edge,
On the edge of my sanity!

I can't turn off the old personna's!
I can't just act like they're not still there!
But now when I'm on stage with Tommy,
I think he's my double and I hate to share!

Oh, woe!
And I think I need to get a life, yeah!
Woah, oh, oh!
You know, I've done some C.D.'s
But each time I play live,
Think my mind's gonna snap,
'Cause I'm playing someone else's jive!

I can't play Paul; Beatlemania's gone now!
Can't play Tommy 'cause he's standing here!
I'd play De Young but Gowan's on now!
So that means I'm stuck as Chuck, I fear!

Oh no! Now I'm wishing I had J.Y.'s life, yeah!
Oh no!
I'm living on the edge, on the edge, on the edge,
On the edge of my sanity!
Living on the edge, on the edge, on the edge,
On the edge of my sanity!

Interpretation

Glen Burtnik has impersonated Paul McCartney in Beatlemania, replaced Tommy Shaw as lead singer and guitarist for Styx, and then replaced Chuck Panozzo as bassist for Styx. No wonder he's on the "edge of (his) sanity"!
