Don't Let It End
Written by Bob (Aku Aku) Young
To the tune of Don't Let It End, written by Dennis DeYoung

What can I do
When I hear of you
It makes me cry
My life's work gone,
Taken by 'friends'
In a hostile coup
Some nights I think of
All of my hard work and
Sacrifices to this band
That I don't understand,
Shaw be a man
Tell me to my face
Don't hide from me,
Such a disgrace
We don't have to be through
Cause if you'll give us a chance to remember
The joy we had once together
Wait and see
Time is all that we really need
I'm hoping you won't say no
I mean to tell you

Don't let it end
Tommy we could have so much more
Don't let it end
JY please don't walk out that door

I'm telling you Tommy, We've all made mistakes
But I'll make you this promise to do what it takes
We can work ourselves though this, call me tonight
We'll give the fans what they want every single night

Don't let it end
I'm begging you, don't let it end this way
Don't let it end
I'm begging you, don't let it end this way

Don't let it end
Tommy we could have so much more
Don't let it end
JY please don't walk out that door
Don't let it end
I'm begging you don't let it end this way
Don't let it end
I'm begging you don't let it end this way, no, no, no
No, no, no

What will I do
I might have to sue
Let's not go that way, Tommy
Don't let it end this way.

Interpretation

It all started with the release of Brave New World. Tommy Shaw and James Young wanted to release the album in the summer of 1999 and immediately tour to support the album. Dennis DeYoung was suffering from a mysterious illness that baffled doctors and left him unable to tour. He also wanted more time to finish the album. The album was released that summer over Dennis' objections, and the band went on the road with Lawrence Gowan filling in for Dennis and Glen Burtnik returning to fill in for Chuck Panozzo, who had previously decided to retire. Rumors started surfacing on the Internet, interviews and on-line chats with band members revealed conflicting and changing stories. Flame wars erupted on the various Styx e-mail lists as the fans polarized over the band's internal issues. Meanwhile, the Styx tour continued without Dennis, whose health improved enough to begin a highly-acclaimed solo tour with a 50-piece orchestra. This parody focuses on Dennis' statements that he has tried unsuccessfully to contact Tommy and JY to resolve the issues, speculating on how Dennis may feel.
