Barry
Written by Gene
To the tune of Eddie, written by James Young
I woke up today
the paper spoke of a man we know
He's made of the stuff
that first made Oklahoma GO GO GO
Livin' in Blue
You know he's the envy of the land
Go pack your stuff!
For you've been kicked out by the MAN!
Can we ignore the fabled Cowboy mystery?
Or deny that people say Barry's history
I think the writing's on the wall......
Barry, now don't you run
You know , you're a bootlegger's son
And you saw just what they done
to poor Tom!
Barry, when said and done
the end of your Cowboy fun
was Caused, of all the luck
By a silly little Gun!!!

Interpretation
This was written shortly after Barry Switzer resigned as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys under pressure from owner Jerry Jones despite a successful tenure there. "Poor Tom" is a reference to the legendary Tom Landry, who was fired and replaced by Switzer's predecessor Jimmy Johnson, also fired by Jones.
