James Deem, your friendly neighborhood Styxnet.com domain owner,
has just completed an album of 10 original songs. The project was produced
and recorded by Jamie Hoover of The Spongetones.
When asked to describe what kind of music I
write to those who haven't heard it before, I would say it is "power
pop/melodic rock" featuring a lot of vocals, a lot of guitars, and a whole
lot of hooks.

Tommy Shaw's Girls with Guns re-released on CD
November 20, 2007

Right on the heels of Tommy Shaw's 1987
solo album Ambition , his 1984 solo album Girls with Guns is
being re-released on CD today by American Beat Records label.
As with Ambition I recommend that you purchase this while you
can. I've seen many CDs like this go out-of-print faster that they were
actually in print.
Dennis DeYoung interview
September 11, 2007
MelodicRock.com posted a recent
interview with Dennis DeYoung. Since July 17, 2007 all of the
surviving principle members of pre-1999-Styx (James Young, Chuck Panozzo,
Tommy Shaw, Glen Burtnik, and now Dennis DeYoung) have given recent
interviews.
Tommy Shaw's Ambition re-released on CD
August 14, 2007

I can't believe I missed this for all of you, but Tommy Shaw's 1987
solo album Ambition was re-released on CD on June 26, 2007.
For those of you that don't already have the original Atlantic version
form 1987 and for those of you completists, buy it while you can because
sooner or later it's sure to go out of print again much like the
re-releases of Girls with Guns and What If? did when they
were re-released in the mid-90s.
FYI, after doing a cursory search on Amazon today you can purchase
Girls with Guns on CD for $165.00, and What If? on CD for
$65.98. That should be motivation enough for you to go out and buy this.

interview with Tommy Shaw today.
Chuck Panozzo interview
July 23, 2007
Jeb Wright at ClassicRockRevisited.com posted a recent
interview with Chuck Panozzo.
James "JY" Young interview
July 17, 2007
There's a podcast featuring an exclusive interview with James "JY"
Young posted at
www.carasbasement.com.
In other news, Gerry Gittelson of the LA Daily News wrote a nice
article about Dennis Deyoung entitled
At 60, talent Styx
with DeYoung. Note that Jimmy Leahey who is mentioned in the
article has also played with Glen Burtnik's band in the past.
Dennis DeYoung releases new CD
June 26, 2007

Dennis
Deyoung's new CD, One Hundred Years from Now, is being
released today in Canada. You can purchase the CD from
Amazon.ca for CDN$ 13.96. If
you live in the U.S. you can purchase the Canadian version of the CD at
Dennis' Web site (www.dennisdeyoung.com)
for $14.98 USD plus
$4.95 USD shipping and handling. If you
live in the state of Illinois a 9% sales tax will also be added.
From DennisDeyoung.com: "My new CD "100 Years From Now" will be
released in Canada on June 19th. The single of the same name was released
about three weeks ago and is a duet with French Canadian rock star Eric
Lapointe. The song is sung half in French and half in English. The
original lyrics were written of course all in Aramaic but at the last
minute I figured, too Mel Gibson. So I reverted back to good old American
English. Some have viewed this as a critical error, seeing as how they
like my music better when they don't understand what I'm saying...oh well,
c'est la vie, which brings us to the French. I gave the English lyrics to
Eric Lapointe and he kept the spirit of my intent and wrote new lyrics en
Francais. Direct translations are of course impossible although there is
one troubling line that I believe says "Dennis is a doofus", I just can't
be sure.
This is the greatest collection of songs written and recorded since
Tiny Tim's landmark live recordings of Blind Lemon Jefferson's "Ode To An
Italian Beef."
Seriously, I'm very proud of the music on this CD and I hope those
of you who have the chance to hear it will be bewitched, bothered and
bewildered. (I was kidding about the seriously.)
Later this year the US version will be available with "100 Years
From Now" in English."
Chuck Panazzo releases autobiography
May 15, 2007

Chuck Panozzo's book entitled "The Grand Illusion: Love, Lies,
and My Life with Styx" is being released today.
From Amazon.com: They are still one of the biggest rock bands of
the last three decades. With four consecutive triple-platinum albums and
54 million records sold, their tours continue to sell out and classic
songs like "Lady," "Renegade," "Come Sail Away," and "The Grand Illusion"
have earned them a whole new generation of fans. At the height of their
fame, they were living the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll fantasy -- an odyssey of
groupies, drugs, and music that most musicians only dream of. As a band,
Styx seemed invincible. But their founding member and bass player, Chuck
Panozzo, was about to hit rock bottom. His seemingly debauched life as the
ultimate rocker was a lie -- and the truth was about to catch up with him.
The Grand Illusion is a no-holds-barred, backstage pass to the
journey of one of the world’s most revered bands, and the true story of
Chuck Panozzo’s 50-year struggle to reconcile his public life as a rock
star with his private life as a gay man. Beginning with the birth of Styx
in Chicago and their meteoric rise, The Grand Illusion is a
revealing look at the triumphs and tragedies that surrounded Panozzo’s
life. He chronicles life on the road, the break-up of the band, his
struggle to help his twin brother and bandmate John Panozzo battle
addiction, as well as his split with Dennis De Young, and finally coming
to terms with his HIV positive status. Illuminating and unflinching,
The Grand Illusion will captivate the band’s legions of devoted fans,
as well as music lovers everywhere.
About the Author
Chuck Panozzo (Chicago, IL) is the bass player for and a founding member
of Styx. Since 2001, Panozzo has been involved in campaigning for AIDS
awareness and gay rights. Michele Skettino (New York, NY) is a
professional writer. She has worked in the music and entertainment
industry since 1989.

Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades new CD Influence is
now available.
From VH1classic.com: VH1 Classic is proud to present the
upcoming U.S. headlining tour for
Shaw Blades-Styx/Damn
Yankees guitarist/vocalist Tommy Shaw and Night Ranger/Damn Yankees
bassist/vocalist Jack Blades. It will launch March 16 in Dewey Beach, DE
and conclude in April 14 in Agoura Hills, CA.
The duo is making the cross-country trek to promote their sophomore
Influence album--which is due out March 6 on VH1 Classic
Records--without the support of a back-up band. Songs from both Shaw
Blades albums, as well as a selection from Styx, Damn Yankees and Night
Ranger, will be performed completely acoustic. An intimate evening of
music will be heard at each stop courtesy of Tommy, Jack and one other
guitarist.
For a taste of what to expect at their shows, fans should check out the
band's Myspace page (www.myspace.com/shawbladesinfluence),
which features a video clip of the duo performing "Too Much Time On My
Hands" (Styx) and "High Enough" (Damn Yankees).
Influence is the duo's first album since their recently
re-released 1995 debut, Hallucination. Like the debut--and unlike their
history-carving decades as icons in the more hard-rock minded Styx, Night
Ranger and Damn Yankees--the latest release is rooted in acoustic guitar
and organic production, harvesting a decade of musical influences into 11
tracks (on which Blades and Shaw played all the music except for drums and
the occasional keyboards). With classics from the '60s and '70s including
the Mamas and the Papas' "California Dreamin'," Buffalo Springfield's "For
What It's Worth" and Steely Dan's "Dirty Work," Influence offers a
track-by-track chronology of the musical era that helped define modern
rock.
In an early album review, Greg Prato of All Music Guide raved,
"Impressively consistent from beginning to end, Influence is
certainly one of the better 'all covers' albums of recent times."
High praise is on the rise from the original artists who are covered on
Influence. To wit:
"I want to thank Tommy and Jack for keeping our music alive. They honored
us with 'California Dreamin'." --Michelle Phillips, The Mamas & The Papas
("California Dreamin'")
"How absolutely fabulous...what an honor to see someone so 'into it'
that it sounds and feels so much like our original record.congratulations."
--Graham Nash, The Hollies ("On A Carousel")
"Just wonderful...it was just great to hear your recording...you
captured the song so well..." --Jon Anderson, Yes ("Your Move")
Meanwhile, Shaw/Blades will be the featured guest on the nationally
syndicated radio show "Rockline" on Wednesday, March 7 at 8:30pm Pacific
Time. They'll chat with host Bob Coburn about Influence, the U.S.
tour and everything else happening in their world. Jack and Tommy will
also be performing a few songs acoustically, and fans will have the
opportunity to call in with questions for the duo at 800-344-ROCK (7625).
For local listings, fans should check out
www.rocklineradio.com.
In further radio news, Jack and Tommy will be heard on the nationwide
"The Bob & Tom Radio Show" the morning of Tuesday, April 3, live from the
show's studios in Indianapolis. For a complete list of affiliates, fans
should log onto www.bobandtom.com.

From DennisDeYoung.com:
"The threat is real! Yes it's true, I have been recording my first solo
rock album since 1888, I mean 1988, and it just feels like 1888. The
working title is "Back to the 10 on Desertchild". Just kidding it's
actually "The Grand Pieces of Paradise". I have decided to return to my
roots and I feel this is my edgiest and rockin'est record ever. (Hell
everybody says this same BS don't they?) Truth be told the songs do not
suck, and If your interested in a middle aged white guy who can still sing
high you just might like it. For more cryptic discussion of this coming
"masterpiece," keep an eye on this web site [DennisDeYoung.com]."
